Would you take a vaccine for cocaine, heroine, or even meth? Sure, the benefits seem to outweigh any risks, but I do know that sometimes cocaine is used in surgery as a topical anesthetic. It could create problems in the future because of this. However, helping the brain resist harmful drugs could be the cornerstone our civilization has been waiting for. To help mankind finally, once and for all, overcome it's vices. What do you think about this? Please share your thoughts below!
Personally I've never been one for drugs, which given that i was heavily into the rave scene in the 90's is a miracle...so I'd not take a vaccine.
ReplyDeleteHowever i have seen friends lives ruined by weed and coke so for them - sure...but it has to be an individuals choice
I've never even thought of such a thing. Sounds like a good idea. :)
ReplyDeleteSoon they'll have a vaccine against everything!
ReplyDeletei don't really get it, is it a vaccine against all effects of these drugs, or just the negative ones?
ReplyDeleteI guess it might help addicts come off - there's no point taking drugs if they don't do anything.
ReplyDeleteI am not a drug taker, but maybe this could help those who have a problem....could be great.
ReplyDeletewell if it helps people over come addiction to dangerous substances then sure more power to them
ReplyDeleteIt appears that this stops the cocaine from reaching the brain. It doesn't actually repair any damage. Since cocaine alters your genomes, it's literally the only thing that makes you happy. (http://www.pnas.org/content/early/2011/01/31/1015483108) I'm not saying this is useless, per say, but I doubt it is as helpful as they're hoping it will be.

vaccine... for coke? That doesn't make much since. Why would anyone take it? If they're taking cocaine its because they want to.
ReplyDeleteseems like a great thing, unless you forget that you took the vaccine and overdose after not feeling any of the effects.
ReplyDeletebut then drug use would be really low?
nah coke is awesome Im not gonna take that
ReplyDeleteGuess it's a good way to make the population into drug slaves.
ReplyDeleteScience FTW.
ReplyDeleteVaccine that will help drug addicts will be good :D
ReplyDeleteI definitely wonder how crazy different the world is going to be even 10 years from now. Ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteEh, I'd rather just not take them than take a vaccine for them.
ReplyDeleteThats a pretty backwards approach to helping an addict...
ReplyDeleteseems like a way to help druggies not feel guilty about doin their drugs now. but who knows.
ReplyDeleteI think "vices" are an important part of what makes us human. Today, it's cocaine and heroine, and these are indeed terrible drugs, but upon replacing them you can only expect something else to take its place. Any attempt to further intervene in this repetitive cycle results in outright chaos.
ReplyDeleteDrugs should all be legal, its bullshit that some are illegal and others arent.
ReplyDeleteHaha... I'd think I'd be more into trying drugs if there was a simple fix
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing. A simple vaccine to make drugs like cocaine, meth, and heroin completely ineffective at controlling the brain? That would be quite stunning.
ReplyDeleteOnly addicts that are trying to rehabilitate would want such a thing. The rest of course are taking the drugs for those effects lol. As for the idea of certain drugs being toned down to be used for aid that depends on how much of the drug you're really neutralizing.
ReplyDeleteInteresting.
ReplyDeleteIf it's only a resistance and can't completely render drugs ineffective, then people will just take more and more until they find the same high. Probably killing them.
ReplyDeleteIf it can totally kill all the effects or even just the negative ones then I totally think they should keep up the work on it :)
I've never taken drugs myself, but I know that there are too many lives ruined by them :/
Waiting for someone to bring up the typical and highly irritating "One more step towards a Big Brother government."
ReplyDeleteThis could be good for recovering addicts, I don't see that the general population would have any use for it. Hopefully it won't have similar side effects as other "blocking" medications such as Chantix which made a friend of mine half crazy and suicidal.
